$1,000 and an opportunity for an additional $20,000
The Samsung Group, an international electronics company, made a tremendous gesture as a tribute to the American help their country received in Korea during the Korean War. They generously endowed a scholarship fund to be administered by The American Legion National Headquarters. Each American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program will select a “state” finalist to compete at the national level for one of seven $20,000 scholarships. The remaining “state” finalists will each receive a $1,000 scholarship. This scholarship is to be applied toward a student’s undergraduate study.
There will be an application included in the packet the delegate receives. However, they can also download the application here. This scholarship is fairly extensive and requires additional paperwork. Therefore, applicants should begin working on this as early as possible to give themselves time. They will turn it in to their city counselor when they arrive at Trine University.
Criteria:
- Applicants must complete Hoosier Boys State in its entirety.
- The student must be a direct descendent of a U.S. wartime veteran who served on active duty during one or more of the periods of war officially designated as eligibility dates for membership in The American Legion by the United States government. Those periods of war and dates are:
