Hoosier Boys State Packing Checklist

Hoosier Boys State is just a couple of days away and some delegates are wondering what they should bring. No sweat! If you forget something, a lot of counselors will do a supply run one or two days out of the week for necessities. That’s not a guarantee though, so here’s a general list of what to possibly pack for the week (feel free to print and use):

Quick disclaimer: Hoosier Boys State, the staff, American Legion, and Trine University are not responsible for any lost items. Therefore, we suggest leaving high value items, such as laptops, home. DVD Update 11/14/12

Here is an update from Jim Thompson, owner of the company used to make the DVDs:

Dear Valued Customers,

It is with must regret I must inform you we will be going out of business due to the unforeseen events of the last year. A series of events starting in approximately May and the upcoming new Federal Heath Care Laws (Obamacare) have forced us to this decision. Spring brought wildfires to our duplication plant we use to do the major productions and shipping. We had many projects in the works and all of them had to be edited over then remastered. We also had major loss from the storms that hit are area of Indiana. It continued with a fire that caused as equipment loss here at the Studio. After regaining some of the insured equipment, one of the employees decided it was worth more to him to steal it. Many smaller events like sickness and other things also occurred this year but this will give you and idea of what lead to our closing. One of the final events was the Presidential elections. We were holding out hope for an outcome that lead to the repealing of the upcoming Health Care Laws. We simply can not afford the cost of it for the employees or the fines if we don’t provide it.

What does this mean for all of you that have projects started or that have not been delivered so far this year???

WE WILL HONOR ALL OF THEM. It also means more major delays and we regret making you wait.
We are aware many of you have already been waiting for months but we WILL get them to you.

What’s the plan? It is our goal to finish and ship all outstanding projects, documentaries, weddings, short films and others by the end of January 2013.

We’re sorry for your inconvenience and thank you for the trust and support you gave us over the years. We will keep to the highest standards as we complete each of the projects.

DVD Update – 10/19/12

We have an update on the DVD’s from Jim Thompson of Vision Studio. They had to make a new master and it has already been sent for duplication. They should have copies for distribution within 2-3 weeks. We apologize again for the inconvenience this has been for everyone.

HBS News Article

Special thanks to the Herald Staff for a great article written!

DVD Update

We realized that the DVD’s have not been sent out to the people that had purchased DVD’s of this summer’s Hoosier Boys State. After checking into it, we just word back on what is going on. The master was completed and sent to the duplication plant about 2 weeks ago. However, the duplication plant is located in California near the wildfires currently taking place and had to be evacuated.

According to the plant representative it will take between 2 to 8 weeks before it will be back in full operation. We sincerely apologize for the delay and hope that everyone gets their DVD’s as soon as possible.

Article written about Boys State!

An update on Steve Bowman

Steve is now home from the hospital, but he is very weak and will be working on rehabilitating his breathing and stamina. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Steve!

Director Steve Bowman

On Monday evening our dear friend and recently retired Hoosier Boys State Director Steve Bowman suffered a heart attack while at home in Vincennes IN. The doctors said that he would have to undergo open heart surgery on Wednesday. Before going into surgery the doctor said he would “feel great and better tomorrow,” to which Steve replied, in typical Steve fashion, ”I feel great before and now.” It is always like him to be positive with no complaints.

After talking with his wife earlier today we are happy to report that the surgeons completed a successful 3 way bypass. He is very sore but sitting up this morning and he should be walking by this afternoon. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Steve for a strong and speedy recovery…
